Challenge
Our large ecommerce client has a massive catalog of very similar product and product category pages. They end up cannibalizing alot of keywords. Basically they have more than one page competing for ranking positions for the same keywords.
Solution
We did a tremendous amount of data analysis to determine what page and set of keywords to focus on first. We had to make sure that for any page we redirected, that we would not lose the keyword rankings that page has that our new main page did not. We found a good target and setup a 301 redirect, did some re-optimization of the new canonical page, and some internal linking to this page.
Result
We ran an SEO split test on these optimizations and the results over the first 28 days were: - Increase in clicks of 595.65%! - Increase in impressions of 305.94%! - And almost doubled the Avg Position and CTR!
